James Mair wins his first PRO fight.
"WHEN civil servant James Mair comes into work at the Scottish Executive with a thick lip, his colleagues don't bat an eyelid.
Even if he had two black eyes and a broken nose, no-one would need to ask what he had been doing the night before.
For they know he has been preparing for his first professional appearance in "a fight club", battling in a no-holds-barred contest in a cage. ... " Edinburgh Evening News <FULL ARTICLE>

01 DECEMBER 2006.
James Mair fought an impressive 2 round stand up battle with Chris Scott from Sunderland MMA forum. The fight went to the ground once, for a very brief time, with Scott attempting a guillotine and an arm bar. James escaped both attempts and the fighters stood back up. The two fighters exchanged blows which resulted in James catching Scott with a left hook in Round 1 and a deep cut under Chris Scott's right eye opened up.
The second round started and again the two fighters exchanged blows. Punches and leg kicks were thrown and there were times where the two fighters were grappling in the corner, both looking for openings. Chris Scott tried relentlessly to take James down but James managed to stay on his feet. A flurry of punches from Scott came later in the round, most of them defended well by James however some coming from under James's guard, resulting in some swelling around the face.
The fight came to an end at the final bell and the judges favoured Chris Scott by decision

Willie Scott had his second Vale Tudo (mixed martial arts) fight.
Club instructor Willie Scott had his second Vale-Tudo mixed martial arts fight on Saturday 27th November at the Cleland Miners Club, Glasgow. Willie's opponent was tough Royal Marine, Dean Robertson.
Dean came out and throw a left-right combination which Willie clocked from, Willie moved in and took Dean to the ground, from which Dean sunk in the triangle choke, Willie proceeded to punch and knee and palm striker to Deans head and body, but Dean managed to get the choke on tight from which Willie had to tap out.
Although beaten Willie feels that he fought well and is desperate to get back into the ring on February 5th at Maryhill Community Centre, Glasgow.

Willie Scott had his first Vale Tudo (mixed martial arts) fight
Club instructor, Willie Scott had his first Vale Tudo (mixed martial arts) fight on Saturday 3rd April in Maryhill, Glasgow. His opponent was the experienced John Jamieson from Glasgow who was competing in his sixth contest.
From the opening bell John caught Willie with a textbook turning kick to the head. This opened an inch long cut under his right eye. Willie then went in to close John down; they ended up on the canvas with John in side control. Willie managed to power his way on top of John but was unable to prevent John putting on the guillotine choke from which Willie tapped out.
Although beaten, Willie remains positive about his chance of winning future fights later this year.

Dave Turton Seminar 16/11/03
The Self Defense Federation (SDF) head and founder, Master Dave Turton 8th Dan, came to the club to conduct a seminar that left us all wanting Dave to visit more often.
With myself having trained with Dave on several occasions previously, I knew exactly what we were going to get; nothing but excellent workable street reality techniques, simple to apply, yet very, very effective.
Dave proceeded to show techniques from his Goshinkwai combat system, street grappling and Lancashire catch wrestling (being on the receiving end of some of the techniques I can vouch for the extreme pain that they cause!!).
As Dave is one of the foremost and probably most knowledgeable martial artist in Europe, regarding self-protection. He has a unique way of describing each technique, its adaptability and application. This ability coupled with Dave's streetwise opinions leads to information being shared that is very rarely covered on seminars.
All in all, this was an excellent seminar that was greatly appreciated by everyone. We will be hosting Dave again in February 2004 watch this page for more information.
It was particularly good to see people like Alan Beckett (Dunbar Self Defense), Sandy Geddess (pro Vale Tudo fighter) and others with a varied background in martial arts, from Krav Maga to Brazilian Jiujutsu, Boxing to Muay Thai, coming along to train with Master Dave Turton.

Roberto Atalla Seminar 5/11/03
3-time World Champion, Brazilian Jiujutsu black belt Roberto Atalla came to the club to conduct a no gi seminar for us.
One of my students (Mark Wilson) and I had taken private lessons from Roberto previously. We knew that his laid-back manner and exceptional technique would enhance anybody's ground game; this would be especially valuable to my students who are relatively new to this type of martial arts training.
Roberto focused on techniques that we would be able to use when fighting from our backs with an opponent in our guard. He demonstrated numerous turnovers, which resulted in us been able, too submit our opponent with armbars, legbars or chokes.
The great techniques shown left everyone with plenty to work on, after another very well received seminar. We will be hosting Roberto again in the New Year. Watch this page for more info on dates. |
